"Roger (Rizzo) is very dedicated to his volunteer work, staying for hours at a time, and shows great patience to each and every resident," said Megan Hess, certified therapeutic recreation specialist at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley. "The residents enjoy having such a bright spirit and positive attitude working with them. Because Roger has (had) disabilities just like the residents, they are able to help each other out and learn from one another. We are blessed to have Roger volunteering at our facility!" Roger Rizzo is the epitome of volunteerism: heart, body and soul. He has brought joy, camaraderie and friendship to the residents of Life Care Center of Boise for years now. He plays cards with the residents where everyone is a winner. He also created a "Gifted Gabbers" club where each member is free to give a speech on multiple topics: travels, challenges, economy, politics, space programs, nation building, etc. Roger's motorcycle accident that nearly took his life was an awakening for him. It jolted and completely overhauled his life, belief system and paradigm. Lisa - Assistant Activity Director |

Having overcome a death-defying accident, he changed his course in life and now spends his time volunteering. I am amazed by the effort, time and energy to make a difference in our residents. He also volunteers at other facilities. Residents in our facility state he has made a difference in their lives. He is here 3 times a week. He plays cards, conducts a program called "Gifted Gabbers", plans a monthly movie outing and goes on special outings. He is very optimistic and encouraging. Residents feel good by just being around him. Roger fits in our company logo, "Whatever it takes." He is dependable and works hard to make a difference in the lives of others. Life Care Center of Boise is very fortunate to have him on "our team." Donna Jordan, Activities Director |

Knowing of Roger's involvement with non-profit organizations, Roger is clearly a man dedicated to improving the lives of others wherever he goes. It is significant to me that within weeks, probably even days, of relocating to Idaho that he jumped right into finding places to volunteer. In addition, he has a great sense of humor that seems to carry him through the struggles he has faced in his life because of his injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. The combination of his heart for people and breadth of skills and experience would make Roger a great Human Rights Commissioner for Idaho. As his supervisor, I would recommend Roger to any organization who is looking for a hard working, dedicated, and trust-worthy volunteer. He has a great sense of humor and is very good at detailed and meticulous projects. He is a man of many talents and we appreciate his willingness to share them with us. Melanie A. Miller, Office Manager, Family Advocate Program October 12, 2006 |

Roger came to Valley View Retirement Community with the desire to volunteer two days per week in our Activity department. He told me how he was volunteering at another facility and of his idea's to make a difference to our residents, as he has done at other facilities. I have found his interaction with residents and people in general to be positive and produce favorable outcomes. Randy Marshall, Activity Director, Valley View Health Care, December 21, 2006. |
